New Solution from Blackmer® Solves Challenges with Shaft Misalignment in Chemical-Transfer Applications

by PSG | Nov 27, 2017
GNX-SeriesGrand Rapids, MI – 27 November 2017 – Blackmer®, part of PSG®, a Dover company and a global leader in positive displacement, regenerative turbine and centrifugal pump, and reciprocating compressor technologies, is pleased to announce that the design and operation of its new GNX Series sliding vane pumps help solve many of the shaft-misalignment challenges faced by chemical manufacturers.

It is imperative that pumping systems are designed and operated in a way that reduces the amount of harmful stress placed on components. One area that has been difficult to achieve and maintain is shaft alignment. Failure to properly align a pump’s mating shafts will eventually lead to challenges associated with shaft fatigue and failure, resulting in compromised pumping-system uptime, reliability and safety. This can then result in costly maintenance or even knock the pump out of service and halt production. To combat the harmful effects caused by shaft misalignment, operators could employ a pump technology that is classified as “alignment free” while still possessing the ability to deliver the high flow rates and transfer volumes that are the backbone of chemical fluid-transfer operations.

Recognizing the need for such a pump, Blackmer developed GNX Series sliding vane pumps, which are the industry’s first alignment-free, reduced-speed pumps for use in both portable and stationary applications. The design of the Blackmer GNX Series pump eliminates the couplings between the gearbox and the pump and motor by rigidly connecting them in alignment with a C-face (or similar) motor on both the high-speed and low-speed sides of the pump. The result is a pump that will not need to be realigned either at initial installation or following a maintenance procedure. This results in an improved peace of mind for the operator.

Blackmer GNX Series pumps are also the ideal solution for chemical-transfer applications because they are more efficient than competitive technologies, providing high-level performance, high suction lift and line-stripping capabilities with low maintenance and life cycle costs. The pumps’ robust, commercial-grade gear reducer is capable of producing low ratios, resulting in more precise flow rates. Furthermore, GNX Series pumps have been manufactured with a larger operating range than competitive designs, offering higher flows and higher pressure.

To provide additional insights into how GNX Series pumps help solve the challenges associated with shaft misalignment, Blackmer has developed a new whitepaper that can be found by visiting the Blackmer literature page at psgdover.com/en/blackmer/literature/item/3507
