Eccentric Disc Pump vs. Lobe Pump

by Mouvex | May 14, 2024

How do Mouvex Eccentric Disc Pumps compare to Lobe Pumps? While Lobe Pumps offer benefits such as high viscosity fluid handling, solids handling, and are cleanable, the technology also offers many drawbacks. Lobe Pumps require mechanical seals which eliminates its ability to self-prime and run dry, and makes them inadequate when pumping abrasive, aggressive, sticky product.

Mechanical seals are also sensitive to shaft misalignment, overheating and incorrect mounting, making maintenance complex and time-consuming. In addition, the need to seal two shafts doubles the expense of seals and the potential for leakage.

To combat this, Mouvex Seal-less Eccentric Disc Pump offers similar benefits as a Lobe Pump but resolves a lot of the drawbacks with its unique design.

Mouvex Seal-less Eccentric Disc Pump capabilities include:

  • Shear sensitive (low shear) – extremely gentle, pulse-free flow to protect shear-sensitive products.
  • Seal-less – the unique seal-less design features a multi-layer bellows in stainless steel that ensures durability, safety and product containment. There is no mechanical seal or bushing to be in contact with the product, reducing leak-points, reducing maintenance, and ultimately increasing safety.
  • Consistent/constant performance – pulse-free, slip-free, and low-shear even flow in varying viscosities and back pressure conditions.
  • Run dry capability – the Mouvex eccentric disc pump can run dry for up to five minutes without causing any damage to the pump or process.
  • Product recovery – the eccentric disc design delivers high suction vacuum and high discharge pressure to self-prime the pump and fully strip the production line, minimizing product waste and dramatically improving production yield.
  • Line stripping (cleaning between batches) – with its clean-in-place (CIP) design/capability, the same pump can be used for different batches, eliminating product containment during changeovers as well as making the process easy.
  • All stainless-steel construction – with stainless steel as the standard material, there are no opportunities for rust and adds additional benefits for easy chemical cleanup.
  • Easy maintenance – with no mechanical seals or timing gears and only two (2) wear parts, the Mouvex eccentric disc design is very cost-effective and easy to maintain.
