As a measure to comply with emission-control regulations, manufacturers of diesel-powered vehicles use Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), or AdBlue, which is a urea-based chemical reactant consisting of 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water that is injected into the vehicle's exhaust stream. This commitment to DEF - which has been called "the largest addition to the motor-vehicle liquids marketplace in decades" - requires a specialized DEF fluid pump that can handle a host of unique challenges that must be taken into consideration when transporting, storing or using DEF.
Blackmer developed a DEF fluid pump, using positive displacement sliding vane pump technology specifically designed for use with DEF and built with materials that will withstand the corrosive properties of DEF. Built with 316 stainless-steel, non-metallic Duravanes, PTFE elastomers, and chemical mechanical seals all Blackmer Vane DEF Fluid Pumps meet ISO 22241-3 certification for material compatibility.
